First Ever Bark-A-Thon A "Pawfect" Success

The first ever Bark-A-Thon, hosted by Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with Big Dog Ranch Rescue, was held on June 1st at the South Florida Fairgrounds. The event brought more than 30 local rescue groups together under one roof for a day of raising awareness, fundraising, and adoptions. By day's end, more than 65 dogs and cats had found forever homes, with many more pets awaiting home visits to make the adoptions complete!

Most of the rescue groups showed off dogs and cats, but there were other pets represented, too. East Coast Rabbit Rescue and Luv-A-Pet put the spotlight on rabbits, and three lucky ones found permanent homes! The Tropical Rainforest Preserve was a popular attraction, showing off exotic birds and monkeys.

Big Dog Ranch Rescue and Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue were among the most popular booths. Each of them found great homes for dozens of pets. It was also a gratifying day for the lesser-known Barky Pines Animal Rescue & Sanctuary. Barky Pines' mission is "the rescue of unwanted, special needs, and senior dogs from the local shelter", and they managed to find forever homes for several of their adoptable dogs.

In addition to the rescue groups, several vendors participated to show off their talents or services. Vasi Seidman, founder of Vasi Studio, displayed beautiful photos and portraits and shared photography tips for taking great shots of moving dogs.

For our part, Jake's Pet Supply was pleased to be involved behind the scenes in helping to coordinate the Swag Bags for the rescue groups as well as for the adopters. We had a booth at the event and got to meet lots of great people involved with these rescue groups! For each organization, we know it takes many passionate volunteers and workers to keep the pets safe, healthy, and happy until they find their forever homes. It was gratifying for us to meet so many of these passionate pet-lovers in addition to the people who turned out for this special event.
